About IONA

We aim, as an organisation, to provide a dedicated organisation for ophthalmic nurses, run by ophthalmic nurses trying to make a difference for all ophthalmic patients worldwide.

We are a limited company, which is managed by the Council of Members including a president, vice-president, treasurer and membership secretary.  Other members of Council organise conference, edit the newsletter and look after the web site.

We want to share information, knowledge and expertise by hosting an annual conference with up to date reports, case studies, new speaker presentations and general information from our members across the world.

We also share information and news by producing a bi-annual newsletter, which is sent as a hard copy to all our members in April and November.  We believe a hard copy newsletter helps our members to share with their colleagues and encourage them to join the organisation.  This way we will go from strength to strength.

Don’t forget we are always looking for contributions especially little snippets of what is happening in your area.  Let us know so we can share…..

We would also love to hear from you if you have any interesting tips or tricks that could be published on the website for the benefit of other members.  Please contact iona.web@hotmail.co.uk with all your news, any study days or conferences and all your local information.

The current newsletter will be sent in the post to you at home but is also available in the members’ section as well as access to back copies.

IONA has been active since 1955 when founded by Mrs. Carmichael, a matron at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.  We want to still be active in 2055 but can only do that with the help of our members.
